Carillon Point Seattle WA History Carillon Point
Circa de 1890
Around 1890, the property that is now Carillon Point community was the home of Atlanta Park, a dance hall for passengers of various tour boats that cruised Lake Washington.

In 1901, the site was purchased by Anderson Shipyard, producers of ferries and tugboats. This was the beginning of Kirkland's ship building industry. During the 1920's, Lake Washington Shipyard purchased the site and made the transition from wooden boat building to steel shipbuilding and constructed a number of steel auto ferries. The most notable - the Kalakala, the World's First Streamlined Vessel! In the 1940's during World War II, the Lake Washington Shipyard built 29 ships for the U.S. Navy and repaired nearly 500 vessels.

The shipyard was purchased in 1946 by Alaska Terminal and Stevedoring, a subsidiary of the Skinner Corporation, and was used to moor passenger liners and freighters of the Alaska Steamship Company.

In 1972, David "Ned" Skinner and several local businessmen began plans to bring the NFL to Seattle by developing the area into future headquarters and practice field of the Seattle Seahawks.

The property went through rezoning from 1979 to 1985, which allowed for extensive public access and a variety of uses. The Seattle Seahawks, under new ownership, moved a few miles away prompting the start of the Carillon Point Complex Project, which was formed by the Skinner Development Company. The company named the project Carillon Point after the specially designed carillon bells, located in the main plaza. Phase One of the development: The Woodmark Hotel and two office buildings, which opened in 1989. Phase Two: three additional office buildings, completed in 1991.

Today, the Woodmark Hotel has seen several renovations. In 1995, the canopy on the Olympic Terrace was added to allow for beautiful lakeside weddings, celebrations and "outdoor" events. Also, The Carillon Room changed to Waters a lakeside bistro, as the hotel's restaurant. As of March 2008, Waters a lakeside bistro closed its doors; and this summer, Cru will be opening in July. Cru will feature over 80, climate controlled wines by-the-glass paired perfectly with fresh northwest cuisine created by Executive Chef Lisa Nakamura. The Spa at the Woodmark opened in 1999, providing quality spa services to the Seattle WA area.

The Woodmark's most recent renovation was completed in March 2006. The new guest room features a luxury bedding package, 32-inch flat screen TV with surround sound system, and desktop computer docking station. The completely renovated guest bath showcases a soaking tub and rain shower. All designed to embrace travelers with the comfort and charm of a private residence.

The Woodmark Hotel, Yacht Club & Spa is an integral part of Carillon Point's 31-acre community located in a park setting along Kirkland's waterfront east of Seattle WA. In addition, the landmark community offers restaurants, specialty shops, groomed gardens, luxury view apartments, office space and a scenic marina. The hotel's unique location showcases the shoreline views of the Seattle WA skyline and Olympic Mountains.
