Summer is nearly upon us, and with it comes long days spent boating on Lake Washington, a seemingly endless lineup of quirky and cool outdoor festivals, and the return of all of our warm weather favorites from farmers’ markets to food trucks.

To soak up this wonderful surge of sunshine (Seattle sees the longest hours of summer daylight in the Lower 48), here’s a look at the season’s most noteworthy events and happenings—be it at our hotel, in our community, or in the nearby Emerald City. Enjoy!

Kirkland’s culinary classic returns this July with a fresh, new menu of Washington wines from more than 20 wineries, bite-sized fare from several illustrious Eastside restaurants, and appearances by the Northwest’s most prestigious celebrity chefs and culinary personalities—whose names will be announced in the coming weeks. The weekend-long summer wine and food festival will take place in Marina Park in two distinct areas: the 21 and up Tasting Garden, which will offer all of the wine tastings and a beachfront grilling stage, and the all ages Promenade, where guests will find the Boat Show and Uncorked Market. There will be music happening all weekend as well as artist pop-up boutiques to explore and several fun chef showdowns. The fest will be open on Friday from 5 to 10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. A $25 ticket gets you a commemorative glass, 10 tastes of wine, and the event’s signature cocktail.

Our favorite old-fashioned, annual downtown parade returns this summer for a spectacular 4th of July celebration. The theme for the parade’s 16th year is “It’s a Small World,” promising a colorful array of patriotic floats and marchers lining the streets of downtown as early as mid-morning. The parade starts at the intersection of Market Street and Central Way at noon, and marchers will make their way through the streets of downtown. There will also be children’s activities and a children’s parade at Marina Park prior to the main event. After the parade, head to the park for live music and local food vendors, and in the evening, look skyward for the holiday fireworks.

Many of the Seafair gatherings are free, while others are individually ticketed.
